THE CONTEXT
In 2019, VTA’s pressure campaign succeeded in stopping the Administration’s proposed flavored vaping ban.
Once again, the vaping industry stands at a critical juncture. If we don’t mobilize and raise our voices, the current Administration will outlaw every single vaping product.
VTA has launched another large scale campaign to pressure the FDA to end the ban on vaping and protect adult access to flavored vaping products.

PUNCHING ABOVE OUR WEIGHT
Cancelling Industry Killing Bills
Filed in 36 States
The state level threat to the vape industry has never been greater as tobacco heavyweights tried to strike a knock out blow this year. PMTA vapor product registry and flavor ban bills were filed in 36 states amidst a wash of false information and demagoguery. To date, things haven’t gone as they planned. Here’s a quick snapshot of the success and failure of the efforts to crush the independent vaping industry and deny adult consumers access to the products they want.
VTA stepped up big this year and engaged in dozens of states, fighting alongside state vape groups and state business coalitions who also rose up to fight. In addition to hiring top-level lobbyists, VTA’s state team is working 24/7 with local companies to provide strong public affairs strategies and tools, such as geo-targeted digital ads, economic impact data, OpEds, and calls to action. The fight is far from over in 2024 and is already starting for 2025. But, we need your support to continue the good work that delivers results. Let’s turn the whole map green together!

Thought Leadership
VTA takes voices of leading policymakers and digitally amplifies their messages
“Given that e-cigarettes are one of the most effective tools to [quit smoking] – according to science –– the drive to remove as many products from the market as possible makes little public health sense. The vaping inquisition must end.”
Peter Pitts
Former FDA Associate Commissioner
“The cronyism and favoritism that has plagued the FDA’s treatment of vaping products is a result of politics. Congress should stay out of pressure campaigns on the FDA and allow them to follow the science [on vaping].”
Liz Shield
Political Columnist
“If the Biden administration and the FDA are serious about health equity and harm-reduction, … the science is clear: broad approval of flavored vaping products will save Black and LGBTQ+ lives.”
Earl Fowlkes
CEO, Center for Black Equity
“If the CTP actually wants to help and not hinder the Biden Administration’s health equity goals and Cancer Moonshot goals, it needs to follow the latest science and data which proves that e-cigarettes are an effective way not only to help Black Americans reduce the harms caused by cigarettes, but also quit their own smoking habit.”
Ed Towns
Former Congressman (D-NY)
“It baffles me that the FDA chose this fight with American consumers and retailers – potentially enacting policy which would significantly limit a tool that has tremendous benefits towards smoking cessation and harm-reduction, especially for marginalized, minority communities who use these products at disproportionately higher levels.”
Ryan Costello
Former Congressman (R-PA)
“…the FDA should stop its relentless attack on vaping. They could take their own COVID-19-era advice to “follow the science,” demonstrate an imperviousness to politics, and increase access to proven smoking cessation tools.”
Kellyanne Conway
Presidential Political Consultant and Expert Pollster
